Maryland announces first confirmed case of Zika virus infection. Resident’s infection was confirmed through a blood test.
 
Baltimore, MD (February 11, 2016) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is announcing its first confirmed case of a Marylander being infected with the Zika virus. The mosquito-borne virus has caused the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to issue travel warnings for pregnant women.

Inter-Agency Heroin and Opioid Coordinating Council to meet Thursday. Governmental task force is part of Governor Hogan’s push against overdoses.
 
Baltimore, MD (February 8, 2016) – Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Van Mitchell announced the Inter-Agency Heroin and Opioid Coordinating Council’s first meeting of 2016 today. The meeting will occur on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Senate Finance Committee Hearing Room, at 3 East Miller Street, Annapolis, MD.
