Basic health care for adults is available through the Primary Adult Care Program (PAC). On July 1, 2006, the Primary Adult Care Program was launched to provide basic health care services to people who make limited amounts of money each year. Other services included in the section include Administrative Care Coordination, Care Coordination and Ombudsman Program.


PAC ELIGIBILITY

• For people 19 years of age or older
• Can not be on Medicare or Medicaid
• Must meet income conditions of:
One person------Monthly Income--------$1,046
Two persons----Monthly Income--------$1,408

PAC BENEFITS

• Pharmacy
• Outpatient Mental Health Services
• Primary Care
• Family Planning Services
• Limited Dental Services
• Vision Care
 

SOME SERVICES NOT COVERED BY PAC

• Inpatient Hospital Services
• Hospital Emergency Room Services
• Specialty Services
• Sterilization Procedures

• Call toll-free at 1-800-226-2142 and ask for application
• Can also go online to: www.dhmh.state.md.us/mma/pac  (Click on "PAC Application" to print a PAC application)
• Mail completed application to:

Will need to reapply each year to remain on PAC

Administrative Care Coordination Unit (ACCU)

The Administrative Care Coordination Unit (ACCU) provides outreach, education, and care coordination activities to the Medical Assistance population, as well as the uninsured and underinsured populations.  The program ensures that clients remain in care and that all populations have access to needed health care services, local resources and programs.
 

The Ombudsman Program accepts referrals from the Compliant Resolution Unit.

The Ombudsman attempts to resolve referred disputes, to assist in resolving complaints, and to educate the enrollee about the Medical Assistance Program,as well as local resources and programs.

Shellfish and shellfish products from Korea should not be eaten
 
BALTIMORE, MD (May 17, 2012) - The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) is advising consumers not to eat any fresh or frozen molluscan shellfish that come from South Korea.  Molluscan shellfish includes fresh or frozen oysters, clams, and mussels, whole and roe-on scallops, either shucked or in the shell, whole or in part.  Crabs and shrimp are not molluscan shellfish.  Shellfish grown and produced in Maryland are not affected. There are no recent cases of illness in Maryland known to be related to Korean shellfish.

Baltimore (May 16, 2012) --The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) has announced the appointment of Craig Stofko as the Health Officer for Somerset County Health Department effective today.  He has served as Interim Health Officer since August 2011.  
 
"We are delighted that Craig accepted the position as leader of the Somerset County Health Department," said Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, DHMH Secretary. "We look forward to having him join Maryland's public health leadership team."

Baltimore, MD (May 8, 2012) –The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) joins the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Maryland Hepatitis Coalition in observance of National Hepatitis Awareness Month.  DHMH also joins the Maryland Hepatitis Coalition in honoring a number of local heroes for their exemplary work and dedication in the battle against this disease.
