Maryland collaborative seeks to reduce elective cesarean deliveries. Maryland’s rate for nonmedically indicated birth type outpaces national average.
 
Baltimore, MD (September 1, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), Maryland Hospital Association and Maryland Patient Safety Center, Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Collaborative will be working closely with hospitals on an initiative to reduce non-medically indicated cesarean deliveries in Maryland.

Maryland West Nile Virus activity this season outpacing last year’s. In most cases, virus causes no symptoms, clears up; State provides residents tips.
 
Baltimore, MD (September 1, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) continues to track cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) statewide. Since the first locally acquired WNV human case was reported on August 18, a total of 13 human cases have been reported in Maryland, exceeding the six cases reported in all of 2014.

Residents are reminded to take precautions to reduce risk during summer, fall
 
Baltimore, MD (August 18, 2015) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) today is announcing the first confirmed and locally acquired case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Maryland this year. The infected individual is an adult who lives in the Baltimore Metropolitan region. In addition, WNV also has been detected in mosquito pools collected in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties. A mosquito pool is a group of mosquitoes collected at one of several trap sites across the state.
