The Worcester County Department of Emergency Services advises all residents and visitors to make advanced preparations for Hurricane Irene, which is predicted to arrive in our area Saturday, August 27, 2011. National weather forecasters are predicting that Worcester County will likely experience heavy winds, rains and storm surges ranging from 2’ to 5’ feet above normal tides. Worcester County is expected to begin experiencing the effects of the hurricane sometime during the day Saturday and continuing throughout Sunday. Those residing in low-lying areas prone to flooding or those residing in mobile homes are extremely vulnerable to danger and are now asked to make arrangements to move to higher ground. All residents are asked to put away any lawn furniture, trash cans or other loose objects that may become airborne during periods of high winds. Construction companies are also asked to secure equipment and pick up and properly dispose of debris. Stay tuned to the local television and radio stations, which will be able to provide additional storm information. Worcester County will provide further information as it becomes available. |
