Medical Marijuana Workgroup Submits Report to Governor and Lawmakers PDF Print E-mail
BALTIMORE (December 9, 2011) – The Medical Marijuana Model Program Workgroup today submitted its report to the Governor and the General Assembly.

The workgroup was established by Senate Bill 308 of the 2011 General Assembly session, and was chaired by Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.  Workgroup membership included a wide representation of stakeholders and experts, including legislators, patients, scientists, health care providers, and law enforcement representatives.

“I thank all workgroup members for their time and effort in considering this challenging issue,” Dr. Sharfstein said.

Between August 2011 and November 2011, the group met three times, with subgroups of the workgroup meeting five times. During the deliberation process, it became clear that workgroup members held different perspectives on several critical issues that could not be represented by a single proposal.  As a result, the group decided to provide the General Assembly with two different proposals.  Each proposal includes draft legislation for consideration by lawmakers.

The workgroup report is available online at http://dhmh.state.md.us/pdf/SB0308-MedicalMarijuanaWorkgroupRPT.pdf.
