Tri County Go Red Event

Snow Hill, Md. – The annual Tri County Go Red Event will be held 5:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6 at the Berlin Intermediate School, 309 Franklin Avenue in Berlin.

Since 2004, Atlantic General Hospital, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester County health departments have partnered to sponsor a FREE Tri County Go Red Event to highlight the impact of heart disease on women, educate women about how to reduce the risk for developing heart disease, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of having a heart attack.

A light dinner, free health screenings and vendors will be available from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Speakers, ballroom dancing, and Zumba demonstrations will be provided from 6:30-8 p.m. The FREE event is open to individuals of all ages and participants should wear red.

Pre-registration by February 4 is encouraged and interested participants can register online at wicomicohealth.org. For more information about the event please call Atlantic General Hospital at 410-629-6820 or Peninsula Regional Medical Center at 410-543-7028.

All too often women do not realize they are suffering from a heart attack until it is too late. More women die of cardiovascular disease than from the next four causes of death including all forms of cancer.

In 2003, the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute took action against the disease that was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year and the Go Red for Women campaign was born. The goal is to raise awareness about heart disease being the number one killer of women and how women can reduce their risk for developing the chronic disease.
