Worcester Health invites you to "Cook & Live Well for Your Health" this National Diabetes Awareness Month

Snow Hill, MD – In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, the Worcester County Health Department (WCHD) is offering a series of cooking demos, Cooking and Living for Your Health, as well as other opportunities to learn about diabetes risk, management, and screening.

This series of healthy cooking demos focuses on diabetic-friendly food choices. Diabetes risk testing and health screenings will also be available. The cooking demos will be held at the following locations:

  • Pocomoke: Wednesday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00a.m. at the Pocomoke Health Center located at 400 Walnut St. #A, Pocomoke City, MD 21851. (Open to the public).

  • Berlin: Thursday, November 6th, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Homes at Berlin, located at 113 Flower St APT 30, Berlin, MD 21811. (Open to residents of Homes at Berlin).

  • Snow Hill: Wednesday, November 7th, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Court Apartments, located at 310 Purnell St. Snow Hill, MD 21863. (Open to residents of Heritage Court Apartments).

Residents who have diabetes and caregivers are encouraged to attend the monthly Diabetes Support Group, led by a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist. This month’s sessions will take place at the following locations:

  • Snow Hill: Wednesday, November 19th, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Snow Hill 50+ Center

  • Pocomoke: Thursday, November 20th, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Pocomoke 50+ Center.

The support group covers topics such as blood-glucose monitoring, medication management, nutrition, meal planning, physical activity, and more. 

Diabetes awareness bracelets and pins will be available at all Worcester County Health Department and Worcester County Library locations, along with diabetes risk test information and diabetes management resources.
