Snow Hill, MD- Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. But you can do a lot to protect your heart and stay healthy.
Research has shown that pet ownership improves your heart health. As a part of the Go Red campaign for 2026, the Worcester County Health Department encourages you and your pets to Go Red for Women's Heart Health to highlight how they can help us reduce our risk for heart disease. Throughout February, the health department will have free pet leashes and heart health resources available at various locations throughout the county.
Pets increase our opportunities to exercise, get outside, and socialize. Regular walking or playing with pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol, and stress levels. All of which play roles in preventing heart disease.
