Snow Hill, MD- The Worcester County Health Department is pleased to launch a new Skin Cancer Screening Program, offering no-cost skin cancer screenings to eligible residents to promote early detection, increase awareness, and support community health.
Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and early detection can play an important role in successful treatment. Through this new program, eligible residents aged 18 and older can participate in skin cancer screenings, taking a proactive step to protect their health. The program aims to raise awareness about skin cancer prevention, help residents recognize potential warning signs, and refer for follow-up care as needed.
“Regular screening for skin cancer is life-saving, especially for dangerous forms of skin cancer such as melanoma. The Worcester County Health Department is very excited to offer this new screening service to residents of Worcester County, ” said Kelly Shockley, RN, Supervisor of the Skin Cancer Screening Program.
The Worcester County Health Department encourages residents to do monthly self skin checks and practice sun safety by regularly applying broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater, avoiding direct sunlight from peak hours of 10am-4pm, wearing protective clothing such as long sleeve shirts, wide brim hats and sunglasses.
